Nat Ward-After the Women of Paradise Road #1, 2010, Archival Pigment Print, 50 x 40 inches
The Wild Project and mr. and mrs. amani olu are pleased to present After the Women of Paradise Road, the first solo exhibition of photographs by Nathaniel Ward. Influenced and reminiscent of the Pictures Generation artists, Ward focuses his attention on the commodification of women who grace the covers of various adult periodicals that are distributed in magazine vending boxes along Paradise Road in Las Vegas. The appropriated imagery reveals women in a variety of clichéd sexual poses, expressions, and gestures––creating an almost anonymous sexual object that is desired by many visitors to Las Vegas. The images are heightened by their surface detritus and amplified layers of separation between the viewer and the women who posed for the original photograph.

Nathaniel Ward (b. 1983) lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Ward received his BFA in Photography & Imaging from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts in 2006. Ward has exhibited internationally since 2005; his work has been included in exhibitions at Center for Architecture, Gulf + Western Gallery, Broadway Gallery all in New York and at SCOPE, Miami, and Art at Kirchberg, Luxembourg. His work has been published in print publications and online, including Bon International Magazine, Solutions Magazine and Artinfo, The Exposure Project and Humble Arts Foundation. He received the Tobias Award for excellence in Photography and Imaging in 2005 and the Constantiner Fellowship in 2006.

The Wild Project is an environmentally conscious venue for contemporary theater, film and visual arts and is dedicated to supporting the arts by offering space and resources to emerging artists.
